About Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of conditions associated with damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve is responsible for transmitting the visual information from your eye to your brain.

In some cases, the intraocular pressure, or IOP, is too high and slowly over time will cause damage to the optic nerve. When this starts happening, the patient starts losing their peripheral vision without realising it.

Usually, high IOP causes no symptoms and is typically picked up on routine examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Even though Glaucoma is a common eye condition it is unfortunately left undiagnosed in many people.
