Southern Day Surgery
Accreditation
Southern Day Surgery (SDS) complies with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards and is an accredited day hospital facility. The NSQHS standards describe the level of care that you should expect to receive from a health service organisation.
Corporate Governance
All business and clinical matters of SDS are managed through the Management Review Meeting and the Medical Advisory Committee. These two committees form the highest level of governance at SDS and meet to review:
Our Quality & Safety Management Systems
Credentialing & Re-credentialing of medical practitioners
Incident reports
Consumer feedback
Internal and external audits
Clinical indicators
Regulatory changes
Maintenance and Resources
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
SDS employs an experienced IPC consultant to provide and oversee our infection prevention and control program. The day surgery undertakes bi-annual external IPC audits to ensure compliance with the national accreditation standards in the following areas:
Australian Standards for reprocessing of reusable medical devices in health service organisation (AS 4187:2014)
National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC 2019): Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare
Hand Hygiene
Australian College of Perioperative Nurses (ACORN) Standards for Perioperative Nursing
SDS follows an internal auditing schedule to analyse and improve our clinical processes and performance.
Partnering with Consumers
SDS welcomes feedback and suggestions from our patients and their carers on how to improve our services. A voluntary patient questionnaire enables consumers to participate in the improvement of safety and quality of care we provided.
Our Staff
Our medical and nursing staff are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). All our staff, including administrative staff are vaccinated for Covid-19 and Influenza.
To provide our consumers with a well-trained and skilled workforce, SDS staff are required to undertake mandatory training.
